Greg Sankey doesn’t want to hear the arguments for Notre Dame, Miami or BYU. On SEC Network Saturday morning, Sankey insisted that the SEC deserves 7 spots in the College Football Playoff.

Now, we’ve heard this kind of thing from Sankey before. As the SEC Commissioner, it’s his job to lobby for his teams and the strength of the SEC as a football conference.

Specifically, Sankey argues that 7 of the top 14 teams in the latest CFP rankings are from the SEC: Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt and Texas. With that in mind, he insists the SEC is the toughest conference in the country and therefore produces the best overall teams.

Here’s more from Sankey:

Of course, there is no chance Sankey’s wishes come true. Texas and Vanderbilt needed more help last Saturday to have any shot. The Longhorns have 3 losses on the season and Vanderbilt doesn’t have a win better than Notre Dame, Miami or BYU this season.

That said, the SEC is set to get more teams into the Playoff than any other conference in college football. With BYU struggling against Texas Tech, Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Oklahoma all appear to be locks for the postseason.

For now, it’s all in the hands of the committee. The CFP selection show is set to air at Noon ET Sunday on ESPN.
