Greg Sankey is a busy man these days, leading the SEC and serving as an integral voice in the future shaping of the College Football Playoff. As a part of those discussions, Sankey recently engaged in a unique golf outing.

On Monday, Sankey confirmed in a Zoom call with the media that he had a special Sunday afternoon golf outing with President Donald Trump and Notre Dame AD Pete Bevacqua. Sankey admitted he appreciates President Trump’s “interest in college sports” after hosting him at SEC events in the past.

Sankey also said it was a good opportunity for himself and Bevacqua to hear the president’s thoughts on the status of college football, while also offering some of their own perspectives:

“I’ve always appreciated his interest in college sports. We’ve hosted him at some of our games. … It was helpful for me and for Pete as well to hear his thoughts and his perspective and share some of ours,” said Sankey via Matt Fortuna. “I think those are best left for the moment on the golf course.”

So, what does that mean for the future of the sport, now that the house settlement is complete and revenue sharing is coming for college athletics? Time will tell, but Sankey and the other leaders of college football are getting input across the board while pondering the future of the Playoff.
