Gunner Stockton and Bray Hubbard were both in action in Week 3, and they led their respective Georgia and Alabama teams to big wins. The SEC wrapped up an incredible Week 3 this past Saturday, as there was everything from major upsets to incredible finishes all throughout the conference.
There were some big-time individual performances this past week, and those players received recognition from the conference. Here’s a look at the Week 3 SEC Players of the Week, headlined by Stockton and Hubbard:
Stockton was named the offensive player of the week after his incredible performance against the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday. The Bulldogs got in a big hole early, as they were down 21-7 less than halfway through the first quarter.
However, he remained poised all throughout the game, and helped the Bulldogs deliver an incredible 44-41 overtime victory against the Volunteers. He finished with 304 yards and two touchdowns. He hit wide receiver London Humphreys on a huge 4th and six play for a 28-yard touchdown that helped the Bulldogs tie the game late in the fourth quarter.
Hubbard had two interceptions against Wisconsin, and he was named co-defensive player of the week with Dashawn Spears of LSU.
Hubbard took a ton of criticism for his performance in Week 1 against Florida State, where it appeared at times he wasn’t giving great effort. He has responded in a big way, helping lead the defensive performance against the Badgers.
Spears continued his strong season, as he also had two interceptions against Florida, including one that he returned for a touchdown. The Tigers defensive improvement has been one of the biggest talking points in college football, and he is a big reason why.
