Gunner Stockton was the starter for Georgia last year when the Bulldogs lost to Notre Dame in the second round of the College Football Playoff, filling in for the injured Carson Beck.
With Beck off to Miami, Stockton is now the unquestioned starter for the Bulldogs as they get the 2025 season started against Marshall. So far, so good as he delivered with 4 total touchdowns before being pulled in fourth quarter as the team is on its way to a 1-0 start.
He is known to be able to run the ball, and he showcased that on Saturday with 10 carries for 73 yards and 2 touchdowns. However, for the Bulldogs to once again be in CFP discussions, he is going to have to be able to capitalize in the passing game.
Stockton was solid throwing the ball as well, finishing 14-of-24 for 190 yards and two touchdowns. His biggest play of the day passing was to USC transfer Zachariah Branch on a 47-yard touchdown.
For the season opener, Stockton did what was needed to get the job done. Georgia has another non-conference game against Austin Peay next week before a challenging road game in Knoxville against rival Tennessee on Sept. 13.
