Gunner Stockton pushes back on criticism of Mike Bobo: ‘Nobody understands how hard he works’

Gunner Stockton isn’t a social media guy.
A reporter told the Georgia quarterback that if he were on social media, he’d probably see a lot of criticism for Bulldogs offensive coordinator Mike Bobo. The 2025 Broyles Award finalist fielded high expectations following the departure of Todd Monken for the NFL, and some fans believe he has not lived up to those expectations.
Shortly after Kirby Smart defended his OC from the podium at SEC Media Days, Stockton followed suit. When asked by that same reporter why he has faith in Bobo as a play caller, here’s what Stockton had to say:
Coach Bobo, I think he gets the best out of everybody. I know he gets the best out of me and all my teammates cause a lot of people have criticism,” Stockton said. “They don’t get to see the day in and day out thing that Coach Bobo does. He barely sleeps during the week, during the game week. But just they don’t see all the work he puts in, the love he has for the university, the love he has for all my teammates and me. I truly don’t think nobody understands how hard he works. And I think he’s the best play caller in the country. And I’m just really excited for this season.”

The Bulldogs have to have a more potent passing attack in 2026, and there are a lot of questions to answer at receiver with Colbie Young, Zachariah Branch and Noah Thomas off the NFL alongside TE Oscar Delp.
As it often goes for quarterbacks in college football, there’s reason to believe Stockton’s senior season will be his best yet. In 2025 Stockton totaled just under 3,000 yards passing with 24 touchdowns and 5 interceptions, boasting a QBR of 84.9 — the No. 6 mark in the country. The big question is whether Bobo and Stockton can find a way to attack downfield on a consistent basis.
Georgia opens its season on September 5 against Tennessee State.
