Gunner Stockton and Georgia will take Week 4 to catch their collective breaths after a thrilling overtime win at Tennessee.
Stockton will be spending part of the open week back in Tiger, his hometown in northeast Georgia. And it’s for a good reason: Rabun County High School will be retiring his old No. 14 jersey on Friday, it announced.
Before signing with Georgia as part of the class of 2022, Stockton was one of the top high school quarterbacks in the country. As a senior, he threw for 4,134 yards and 55 touchdowns with just 1 interception. He added 15 touchdowns and 956 yards on the ground on 137 carries. In four seasons, he passed for 13,652 yards and 177 touchdowns while running for 4,372 yards and 77 TDs.
In his first season as Georgia’s starting quarterback, Stockton has improved in each of his outings. He was 23-of-31 in the 44-41 OT win against Tennessee, passing for 304 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also ran for a score.
Through 3 games, he has 721 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions while completing just under 71% of his passes. On the ground, he has posted 3 touchdowns.
Georgia returns to action on Sept. 27 as it faces Alabama.
