The Auburn Tigers football family was saddened to hear about the passing of Jamar Travis, a member of AU’s national championship squad, this weekend. Auburn coach Gus Malzahn, who was at AU for three seasons of Travis’ Tigers career (2009-11), remembered Travis in a tweet Sunday.
“Saddened to hear the passing of Jamar Travis (2009-12). He was a super person with a great smile. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends,” Malzahn tweeted.
The W.S. Neal (East Brewton, Alabama) football program announced the passing of Travis on Saturday. It did not state a cause of death or mention funeral arrangements.
Travis signed with Auburn in 2009. He did not start for AU, but was a reserve defensive lineman and contributed on special teams. He logged nine total tackles in three seasons (2010-12) on the team, according to college football stats site sports-reference.com.
Malzahn was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks under Gene Chizik during those three seasons.
