Auburn is one of the SEC teams dealing with a new bye week this week after its game with Mississippi State was postponed. Coach Gus Malzahn shared how the Tigers are trying to maximize the bonus time.

“Very few teams improve this time of year,” Malzahn said on the SEC coaches media teleconference. “Most have topped out and they’re just trying to maintain and so we’re one of those teams that we played our best game. Two weeks ago now obviously we wish we would have played. You know this week after an awful week but like I said it’s it’s unique you and I really feel confident our guys will will adjust and be ready to play next week.”

Auburn has had nine players test positive, but Malazahn added on Wednesday, “we had one more new one today so we are taking it day by day and get this thing under control before long.”

Malzahn also shared his thoughts on the season being extended because of the postponement.

“We went seven weeks without an issue… just so happens that this week it happens, which we knew that could happen,” he said.

Auburn is set to play Tennessee next week.

“You have to be prepared for what you are dealing with, things change on a day by day basis,” he said. “Our goal is to get this thing under control.”
