Houston is opening its 2026 season โ and Year 3 of the Willie Fritz era โ against Oregon State on Saturday.
After a 4-8 mark in 2024, the Cougars, under former Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman, made a big jump, going 10-3 for their first winning season since 2021. There’s still a gap between them and other Big 12 programs like Texas Tech and BYU, but they’ll look to make some noise in search of the program’s first-ever College Football Playoff appearance.
If things don’t turn out on the field, at least Houston will get some attention for its new gameday entrance at TDECU Stadium.
Take a look as a red Cadillac led the Cougars out on the field on Saturday afternoon:
The Cougars got off to a good start in their opener against the Beavers, taking a 19-7 lead into the locker room before holding on to a 26-13 advantage after three quarters.
After Oregon State, Houston welcomes FCS Southern. That leads into its Big 12 opener as it travels to Lubbock to take on Texas Tech on Sept. 18.
Following a trip to Georgia Southern on Sept. 26, the red Cadillac will make its return on Oct. 3 as Houston hosts UCF.
