Hugh Freeze had some news for an Auburn walk-on wide receiver on Tuesday.
Cam’ron King, a redshirt freshman from Ocala, Florida, walked on to the Tigers football team in 2024. He’s back with the team in 2025, and learned that he is now on scholarship.
Freeze called King up in front of his teammates before the big annoucement.
“What’s it like being a walk-on at a place like this?” Freeze asked.
“It’s honestly a blessing, but at the same time it’s hard,” King said.
“Do you think (your teammates) treat you differently because you’re a walk-on?” Freeze responded.
“No. I feel like they bring everybody in as one,” King said.
“I know your teammates love you, and are proud of you, and thankful for you,” Freeze replied.
As King made his way back to his seat, though, Freeze revealed that he’d been placed on scholarship. Watch the moment for yourself below:
There have been more highs than lows over the past few years for Auburn fans. Either way, it’s tough to deny that this was an emotional moment for everyone involved, as is the case when any walk-on learns that they’ve been put on scholarship.
Auburn opens its season on Aug. 29 on the road at Baylor.
