Hugh Freeze understands how big this season is for the Auburn Tigers and his tenure as the coach at the school. The first two seasons haven’t gone quite as he had hoped, as the Tigers are only 11-14.

This season the expectations are much higher in large part because of a receiver room that looks like it can be one of the better groups in the country. Cam Coleman and Eric Singleton Jr. form a dynamic duo, and both of them were named to the preseason Biletnioff watch list.

With those expectations, fans would hope that energy and atmosphere in practices would resemble that of a championship team. However, Freeze told reporters that Wednesday’s practice was below his expectations from an energy standpoint.

“There were spurts of practice that were really good and others that we just kinda got through,” Freeze told reporters. “You would think we would have a little more energy. I would hope.”

The Tigers don’t have a ton of time to get locked in, as they have a very difficult Week 1 matchup against Baylor on August 30. That is the type of game if they win, the fans will take a deep breath and be excited for the season. Lose that though, and they could get even louder in their displeasure with the team.
