Jadan Baugh talks Jon Sumrall’s Christmas Day visit: ‘It showed a a guy with character’

When Jon Sumrall officially took over as Florida‘s head coach following Tulane’s College Football Playoff exit in December, he knew the to-do list was already lengthy.
But at the top of it was retaining the services of star tailback Jadan Baugh, as the Atlanta native was fresh off a 1,100-yard campaign and had established himself as a bright spot within the program.
So, Sumrall made sure to waste little time in making an impression, and as Baugh revealed during SEC Media Day festivities on Wednesday, that meant a holiday visit from the head coach.
“People don’t know it, but he came to my grandmother’s house on Christmas Day. And we sat there and just talked about everything, and that stuck out to me the most because that show is a guy who cares,” Baugh said. “It showed a guy with character that when anything’s going on, he does not care to a point where we’re just trying to get me back on the team, you know?”

To be allowed into a grandmother’s home on Christmas Day is a high honor, and with Baugh set to suit up in the blue and orange again this year, it’s clear that the ambitious recruiting effort paid off.
After rushing for 673 yards on 133 carries in 2024, Baugh followed that up with 1,170 on 220 touches in ’25. He’s also accounted for 243 receiving yards and 18 total touchdowns through his two years in Gainesville.
