Former LSU star and Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels captured the NFL’s Rookie of the Year honor after a massive debut season for the Washington Commanders, and his work for the rookie season began just as soon as he was drafted.

On Tuesday, Washington GM Adam Peters made an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show to discuss Daniels’ performance, and Peters was asked when exactly the team knew they had the right guy in the draft. According to Peters, it was evident throughout the entire process, including when Daniels wanted to learn the playbook at his first meeting immediately after the draft.

Then, during his flight after the meeting, Daniels put in the immediate work, getting in some dropbacks on the plane.

“I think it was just the process of everything from the moment he got in here, from the moment we flew him in for interviewing him after we drafted him and he wanted to go through the playbook while he was here, and he was doing dropbacks on the plane on his way back to LA,” explained Peters. “Every step of the way, you could see the humility that he had, the work ethic that he had. Just the way he connected with his teammates… He earned everything he had. You could feel it right away, just what kind of a special person he was.”

Now that Daniels is coming off his rookie season, he is among the favorites to capture his first NFL MVP award entering his 2nd season. DraftKings has the former LSU star at +750 to win the award, trailing only 4 other quarterbacks heading into the season.
