Jeremy Pruitt discusses change to Tennessee’s QB depth chart

As the Tennessee Volunteers prepare to host Charlotte this weekend, there has been a minor change to the quarterback depth chart.
No. 3 QB Will McBride has been moved to the scout team, and former scout team QB J.T. Shrout has been bumped up to the No. 3 spot.
After practice on Wednesday, coach Jeremy Pruitt discussed the change, saying he hopes to get Shrout, a freshman, ready to play in actual game action this year (via RockyTopInsider.com):
“We’re just trying to get J.T. ready to play,” Pruitt said after practice on Wednesday. “He spent the first half of the year on the scout team. All of our quarterbacks take reps in practice. We do a lot of good-on-good stuff, but when you start preparing for an opponent, you’re only going to work two guys. You might let a third guy get just a few reps, but not many, so they’ve got to take mental reps. (Shrout) worked the first half of the year on the scout team, and we’ve swapped him and Will, but they both take reps in practice in good-on-good.”
Shrout has yet to make an appearance in a game this season, so with only four games remaining in the regular season, he could play in all of them and still maintain his redshirt.
Will we see the young freshman against Charlotte this week? We’ll have to see how big of a lead the Vols can build up.
