As Tennessee prepared to face Arkansas this week, the Vols had a disruption early in the week thanks to a host of false positives for COVID-19.

Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt shared the details on Wednesday during the SEC coaches media teleconference.

“We tested on Sunday and unfortunately we did have false positives,” Pruitt said. “So we had some guys that had to miss Monday’s practice, but they are back. That was good and I think that’s happened probably all over every testing facility across the country at times. It’s the first time it’s happened with us but we did have some guys that missed Monday’s practice, they’ll be ready to go today.”

The Vols perhaps got a break on Tuesday in dealing with the disruption because the NCAA made it a mandate that every school would not practice Tuesday in order for players and staff to be available to vote.

SEC teams test their players three times each week, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.

In the previous update on testing, Pruitt said after the Alabama game before the bye week, that the Vols have not had a positive test since the season started.

In August and early September, Tennessee dealt with somewhat of an uptick in cases and contact tracing after the return of the general student population to campus. Several players had to quarantine because of contact tracing during that time.
