Jesse Palmer knows all about the expectations of playing for Florida, and he addressed how he feels about the current landscape as the Gators embark on the 2025 season.
This year is especially pivotal for the tenure of current head coach Billy Napier. While the program won 8 games this year, Florida is still just 19-19 overall under Napier with a sub-.500 mark in SEC football.
Instead of moving on from Napier last year, the Gators made the decision to bring him back along with a core young group of players. Considering everything at stake, Palmer admitted in a conversation with David Pollack that he and other alumni feel “really good” about the trajectory of the program.
Palmer especially pointed to the key late-season wins against Ole Miss and LSU as providing a lot of confidence in Florida’s path for 2025:
“The confidence I think in the locker room but also just among the alumni… I think we feel really good about it,” said Palmer. “It’s just amazing how winning 1-2 games — big games like that — changes the recruiting landscape not just in high school but through the portal now.”
While the nucleus looks good on paper, Palmer did express concern for another “brutal” schedule. They will have to play games against LSU, Miami, Texas A&M and Ole Miss on the road but will get Georgia, Texas and Tennessee at home. “Some of these wins they’ve had, what the roster is looking like. I think some people were afraid if they fired Napier they were going to lose DJ Lagway… and some of these good true freshmen players. The nucleus looks pretty good for next year,” Palmer explained. “The schedule is still brutal.”
