Former Florida LB Jarrad Davis went down with a left ankle injury last week during a joint practice between Davis’ New York Jets and the Green Bay Packers.
Now coach Robert Saleh has announced that Davis will be sidelined until the team’s Week 6 bye week 2 months away. Davis last week walked to a medical tent, but ultimately was carted off the field a few moments later, Pro Football Talk reported.
Davis signed with the Jets as a free agent in March. The 2017 first-round pick played his first four seasons with the Lions, but was a backup in 2020. With the Jets, he was starting with C.J. Mosley at linebacker in the preseason.
Previously, Davis was looking forward to playing in Saleh’s system. Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich scouted Davis while he was coaching in Atlanta and hoped to someday have him on his team, the Associated Press reported.
“Absolutely loved the makeup of the guy, and loved the player,” Ulbrich said. “Always was super hungry to get him within this system, put him on repeat, let him just master some techniques. Let his speed and his run and hit just go. And, that’s all starting to show up.”
