Jimbo Fisher could be positioning himself for a return to head coaching, and it could be at a very familiar place.
The 60-year-old who last coached at Texas A&M in 2023 is apparently itching to get back into the coaching world, and according to a report on Friday by The Athletic insider Bruce Feldman, Fisher and Florida State might be headed for a reunion if the school ends up firing current head coach Mike Norvell.
Feldman reported that Florida State is “looking into the possibility” of bringing Fisher back to the program in Tallahassee where he won a national championship in 2013. Fisher “really wants the job,” according to Feldman’s report, so the feeling is apparently mutual for a possible return to Florida State and the ACC for Fisher.
During 8 seasons at Florida State between 2010-17, Fisher compiled a 83-23 record, a 48-16 mark in the ACC and, of course, that national championship. With the Seminoles sitting at 1-1 going into Saturday afternoon’s matchup at No. 10 Alabama (3:30 p.m. ET, ABC), Norvell could be falling below .500 for the first time in 2026 after a season-opening victory.
Since taking over at FSU in 2020, Norvell has struggled to a 39-35 record, which has put him on the hot seat, as Florida State aims to be relevant again in college football championship circles.
During his run at Texas A&M from 2018-23, Fisher went 45-25, and according to Feldman’s report, his hiatus in coaching for the past 2 seasons has created an urge to return to the sideline. Apparently, FSU wouldn’t mind it being on its sideline, if it indeed does part ways with Norvell.
Fisher would ideally like to be right back in a situation where he can make a run at a College Football Playoff spot. While Fisher positions himself for a potential return to coaching, wherever that is, here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about the best odds to make this year’s Playoff:
