From one veteran play-caller to another, Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher knows a skilled offensive coordinator when he sees one.
Fisher shared his thoughts on South Carolina offensive coordinator Mike Bobo on the SEC coaches media teleconference. They’re set to face one another this week in Columbia, South Carolina.
“Mike will run the football, they’re very physical front the backs are big and heavy and he knows how to run it, but he also knows how to get great play-action screen games,” Fisher said, and added that Bobo’s offense has a lot of diversity and, “all those runs that make it all look the same.
Fisher complimented WR Shi Smith, who he called a very good player, and he referred to Jalen Brooks’ addition as another element to the offense.
“It’s gonna be a great challenge, they’re very well coached football team,” Fisher said.
Speaking of offenses, Fisher commented on QB Kellen Mond’s development as a passer.
“Yeah, I think his knowledge, his comfort level with his receivers and getting used to those young guys now and I think our offensive line has a lot to do with that too,” Fisher said. “They’re protecting and building time to get through progressions, get through reads, allowing him to get his feet in the right position because he’s not always having to move them from different situations to and I think it’s because all the success that people have in football there, it is them. You have to understand they are making changes themselves and doing things but it’s also when guys around you play better. You also benefit of that too is I think it’s a combination of all those things and I think he has knowledge on his work ethic has been tremendous.”
