Joe Milton turned in an excellent performance in his preseason debut on Thursday night.

Milton completed 4 of 6 passes for 54 yards and a touchdown in the 17-3 win over the Carolina Panthers. He also rushed for 22 yards and showed off impressive mobility throughout his stint on the field.

Here are a couple of highlights from Milton’s big night:

Milton was the second Patriots quarterback to see game action on Thursday night behind veteran Bailey Zappe. Drake Maye, who the Pats took No. 3 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, was the 3rd QB for New England to enter the game.

Milton also received some high praise from Patriots coach Jerod Mayo. Asked if anyone exceeded his expectations in this contest, Mayo had this to say:

“I need to go back and watch the film, but the easy answer would be Joe (Milton),” Mayo said.

Milton may have an uphill battle to winning the starting job over Zappe and Maye, but he’s off to a good start as a rookie. He’s flashed the elite arm talent and mobility that earned him playing time at both Michigan and Tennessee during his collegiate career.

In his final season at Tennessee, Milton threw for 2,813 yards, 20 touchdowns and just 5 interceptions. He also rushed for 299 yards and 7 more scores on the ground.

New England’s next preseason game is set for Thursday, Aug. 15 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
