Joel Klatt compares playoff resumes of No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Michigan

Joel Klatt, a FOX sports analyst and host of The Joel Klatt Show, took some time to compare the playoff schedules of Georgia and Michigan Wednesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs and Wolverines have a very similar resume in some regards. Their strength of schedule is about the same, with Georgia’s best win (s) being over Florida/Kentucky and Michigan’s being over Rutgers.

Georgia has the No. 100 SOS while Michigan is sitting at No. 111 through Week 9.

But Klatt seems to believe there should be a slight change in the rankings. He favors Michigan’s consistency over Georgia’s history. Because in Klatt’s eyes, there’s nothing other than history to support Georgia being ranked a spot ahead of Michigan right now.

“Michigan gets put 3rd, even though their body of work against a similar schedule is far superior to Georgia’s. That just seems like it’s a little off from the committee,” Klatt said. “They didn’t have a resume to go on because they already put that resume (Ohio State) on No. 1. Then they look at Michigan and Georgia and it’s like, their strength of schedule is basically the same. Yet Michigan has been far and away the more consistent of the 2”

Hear his full argument below:

Georgia’s schedule ramps up in difficulty considerably very soon. The Bulldogs face off against Mizzou, Tennessee and Ole Miss in the coming weeks. If they get through that stretch undefeated they will have easily earned their place in the top 2.

Michigan doesn’t have a cakewalk coming up, either. The Wolverines still have to face Penn State and Ohio State in coming weeks.
