As the 2025 college football season approaches its halfway mark, a clearer picture of who is, and who is not, likely to make the College Football Playoff by December is starting to take shape.
A number of top programs have built up impressive early resumes, and some more surprising squads have also thrown their name into the mix as well.
FOX college football analyst and commentator Joel Klatt has seen as much football this year as anybody, and he just dropped his updated prediction for what the CFP bracket will end up looking like come Selection Sunday.
There aren’t really any big surprises in the top 3 of Ohio State, Miami and Oregon; the No. 4 spot is where things get a bit interesting, as Klatt currently has the Texas Longhorns occupying the last first-round bye.
Given the struggles the Longhorns have faced on offense over the first half of their campaign, this seems a bit high, but Klatt has remained steadfast in his belief in the Horns all season long.
After Texas, Klatt also has 4 other SEC squads making the final field in Georgia, Ole Miss, Alabama, and Texas A&M, which is the most by any conference in the tournament.
There’s still a long way to go before anything is set in stone, though, and there are sure to be at least a couple of massive shakeups in the pecking order between now and the first Sunday in December when the final bracket is announced.
Therefore, it will be interesting to see how things continue to unfold and what Klatt’s predictions end up looking like come season’s end.
