Joel Klatt says CFP selection committee ‘hates’ the ACC

Joel Klatt was tuned in to the first College Football Rankings release like every college football fan was on Tuesday night. There weren’t a ton of complaints going on, as Ohio State, Indiana and Texas A&M were the top 3 teams.

There was some controversy with how high Notre Dame was, as the Fighting Irish have two losses and were coming off a less-than-dominating performance against Boston College.

However, one glaring thing that Klatt saw from the rankings was that the selection committee is not high on the ACC. He went as far to say the committee ‘hates’ the conference.

“I know what I said I was going to say, I think the committee hates the ACC,” Klatt said on his Wednesday show. “They’re not getting two bids. These teams are not getting propped up over the teams ahead of them. Here are the ACC teams in the Top 25. There is almost no way they are getting a team all the way up to be champion, and a second team in a position to go to that game, to lose and still go to the playoff. I just don’t see it at all.”

Virginia is currently the highest-ranked team at No. 14, with No. 15 Louisville right behind them. Georgia Tech and Miami come in at No. 17 and No. 18, and Pittsburgh is the other ranked team at No. 24.

The Hurricanes were in prime position to make a run just a couple of weeks ago, but they have lost two straight games. Last year, Clemson defeated SMU in an incredible ACC Conference Championship, and both teams still made it to the CFP.

With so many teams bunched up in the rankings, the ACC promises to be extremely exciting over the last month. But it looks like the winner of the conference championship game may be the lone CFP team from the conference this year.
