John Calipari announces new development in Shaedon Sharpe’s Kentucky future

John Calipari put out a statement to end all discussion and questions about when Shaedon Sharpe may play for Kentucky.
Sharpe, who enrolled at Kentucky for the second semester, will sit out the entire 2021-22 season. He was expected to be a high NBA Draft pick in the next eligible draft.
“After talking with Shaedon and his parents, we want to end all of the speculation by again saying that he will not play for us this season. He is committed to bettering himself and our team in practice this year and being better prepared to lead us next season,” Calipari tweeted.
In recent weeks, it appeared the chances of him playing were increasing, and fans even chanted his name at games to get in the action. Though the reality still appeared to be a long shot, and this news is not a surprise to those who follow the program.
This news also ends all draft speculation about when he’d be eligible and where he’s projected to be drafted. Now the coaching staff and Sharpe can plan for the 2022-23 season.
Sharpe is from Glendale, Arizona (Dream City Christian) and is a 6-foot-5 and 185-pound shooting guard. He had 15 offers, but committed to Kentucky on Sept. 7.
