John Calipari reacts to Chris Mack’s exit at Louisville: ‘We’re all 30 days from bankruptcy’

John Calipari weighed in on one of the biggest stories in college basketball this week, and a topic that happens to involve his chief rival.
Calipri was asked on Friday about Louisville parting ways with Chris Mack, who told reporters earlier this week that he has no ill will or bitterness toward UofL.
“I feel bad for he and his family,” Calipari said. “Coaching is a hard profession. We’re all 30 days from bankruptcy, everybody, in this profession.”

Interim athletic director Josh Heird reported that Mack will be paid $4.8 million between this fiscal year and the next three fiscal years. Mack departed after UofL went 6-8 since he returned Dec. 1 from a six-game suspension by the school for failing to follow university guidelines in his handling of an extortion attempt by fired Cardinals assistant coach Dino Gaudio last spring.
Overall, Louisville, which plays Duke on Saturday, is 11-9 and 5-4 in the ACC, but likely needs to win out in hopes of returning to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since Mack’s inaugural 2018-19 season.
