John Calipari understands what’s on the mind of college basketball fans across the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He just isn’t sure what the future holds in terms of a rescheduled game with Louisville, which was set for Wednesday, but called off because of COVID-19 cases within the Cardinals’ program.
“If there are cancellations and an opportunity, we’d play it,” Calipari said Tuesday, per John Clay. “But we don’t know where this thing is going.”
The Kentucky coach added that if the game is not played this year, it should be played at Rupp Arena next year, which he added was what happened in football.
In place of the UofL game, UK will host Western Kentucky on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Rupp Arena and the game will remain on ESPN.
The Wildcats and Hilltoppers will meet for the first time since the 2012 NCAA Tournament, and UK Athletics is working on a charitable component from the game that will provide support for tornado victims.
