Auburn athletic director John Cohen spoke Thursday about the current landscape of college sports, making a call for the help of the federal government in the process.
At the Lutzie 43 Golf Invitational, Cohen told Peter Rauterkus of AL.com the following:
“If you can’t make decisions without ultimately appearing in court, you can’t lead,” he said. “And we desperately need that type of leadership, and that’s why I think eventually this has to happen and I think so many of our representatives in Washington are fully aware of this, and I’m excited about what this can become.”
Schools around the country are currently in a state of uncertainty with the NCAA vs. House settlement still undecided. And of course, President Donald Trump has been reported to be considering an executive order aimed at regulating NIL, which drives much of the aforementioned uncertainty.
Nick Saban, who is reported to be tied towards the co-chair of Trump’s presidential commission for college sports, has spoken out about the current state of college athletics in the past, insisting the pay-for-play model of college sports is due to run its course sooner rather than later.
We’re likely to see major change in college sports across the next few months and years.
