John Mateer inked multi-million dollar NIL deal with Oklahoma, per report
John Mateer agreed to an NIL package worth around $3 million when he signed with Oklahoma this offseason, according to a report.
That’s per On3’s Pete Nakos, who shared the news on Wednesday afternoon. Mateer was one of the very best quarterbacks in the portal this cycle, but chose to follow offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle to Norman after the duo achieved notable success at Washington State in 2024.

However, it’s worth noting that Mateer’s deal is not just for the 2025 campaign. Per SoonerScoop’s George Stoia, the $3 million figure would be what Mateer earns if he also returns to Norman for his senior season in 2026.
The NIL market for quarterbacks and other top players is rapidly changing. Miami quarterback Carson Beck is reportedly expected to earn $4 million after transferring from Georgia this offseason.
Oklahoma is hoping that Mateer will be a significant upgrade under center in 2025. Last season at Wazzu, Mateer threw for 3,139 yards, 29 touchdowns and just 7 interceptions. He also rushed for 826 yards and 15 more scores on the ground. Oklahoma, meanwhile, had one of the nation’s worst offenses in 2024 as it averaged just 4.81 yards per play.
