John Mateer made a huge play late in the first half against Mississippi State on Saturday afternoon in Starkville.

With his Sooners up 3-0 at Mississippi State late in the first half, Mateer showcased that athletic ability. On first down, Mateer was able to escape a pass rush and hit Isaiah Sategna for a 36-yard touchdown.

It has been a struggle all season for the Sooners’ offense, as they just haven’t been able to consistently move the ball and score touchdowns. However, if there is one receiver that Mateer has shown great chemistry with, it is Sategna. The duo connected on two huge plays at the end of the Texas game, setting up the eventual game-winning field to pull the upset.

Mateer did take a big hit on the play, and was being looked at afterwards. For the Bulldogs, they lost their quarterback as well in this game. Kamario Taylor was returning after missing the LSU game due to a foot injury, but he was forced to leave the game after aggravating the injury.

The Sooners are looking to get back in the win column and avoid falling to 3-4 on the season. This is the first-ever meeting between Oklahoma and Mississippi State on the gridiron.
