Jon Gruden names his all-time Georgia offensive lineup

Jon Gruden just reminded football fans everywhere that some college football legends have played on offense for the Georgia Bulldogs. On a recent stop in Athens, Gruden was asked to name his all-time Bulldog offense. The former NFL coach started at quarterback and then built the supporting cast.
“At quarterback, got to go with Matt Stafford,” Gruden said. “At tight end, understand this, I’m going to play two at a time, and I’m starting with Brock Bowers… I’m going to take Benjamin Watson, he’s my other tight end.”
In addition to multiple tight ends, Gruden also opted for 3 running backs, leaving just 2 wide receiver spots.
“My wide receiver, my go-to guy is my favorite, perhaps, Bulldog ever, Hines Ward. And I’m going to put Lindsay Scott on the other side, just because of that 80-yard clutch touchdown that he caught to put you guys in the national championship game. My tailback, that’s tough, Herschel Walker, Nick Chubb, Garrison Hearst. I need to have three running backs to make my team.”
Gruden acknowledged the obvious. It’s hard to reconcile picking 3 running backs from a school and not including Todd Gurley, but that only bolsters UGA’s claim to “RBU.” Next time Kirby Smart has an opening at running backs coach, he might want to give Gruden a call.
“Sorry, Todd, you didn’t make the cut,” Gruden said. “Garrison Hearst, Nick Chubb, Herschel Walker, Terrell Davis… I want to be the running back coach at Georgia in my next life.
Wrapping things up, Gruden only named a couple of offensive linemen, citing pro careers.
“At center, we’ll go with David Andrews, the world champion New England Patriot,” Gruden said. “Matt Stinchcomb will be my left tackle since I drafted him in the first round.”
