The Florida Gators suffered another massive setback in Week 6 against South Carolina, dropping their 2026 homecoming matchup in embarrassing fashion with a 38-19 loss to the Gamecocks.
The 88,000-strong crowd inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium was none too pleased with their beloved Gators’ showing, and they made their displeasure known by raining down boos on the players and coaches on more than one occasion during the game.
First-year head coach Jon Sumrall was asked about the fans booing his team during his Monday morning presser, and he told reporters that he loves that Florida fans care enough about the program to express their displeasure when the team isn’t performing well.
“They have the right to boo,” Sumrall said. “The thing that I love is we have freaking passionate, awesome fans. Like, why you come to the University of Florida is that people care… I love that our fans care enough to boo.”

There’s no denying the Gators have some of the most passionate fans in the country, and Sumrall recognizing and appreciating that passion is a big reason why he has endeared himself to the fanbase so quickly.
Hopefully he can get things back on track in Gainesville moving forward so fans have something to cheer about on fall Saturdays again.
