Jon Sumrall and Florida were the talk of college football two weeks ago after they blew out Ole Miss, 52-28. However, things have come back to reality since then, with the Gators’ loss to South Carolina on Saturday being their second consecutive loss.
After the game, Sumrall told it like it is.
“We’ve been exposed in a pretty substantial way,” Sumrall said.
In the last two games, the Gators have been outscored by a margin of 83-36. The loss on Saturday was especially concerning, as the Gamecocks had lost 8 straight SEC games heading into this week’s matchup against the Gamecocks. Coach Shane Beamer’s seat is as hot as any in college football this year, but his team responded in a big way on Saturday.
For Sumrall, the honeymoon phase is over in Gainesville. The Gators had been looking for success for a long time, but haven’t been able to build on the win against the Rebels. The schedule doesn’t get any easier for the Gators, as they travel to Austin next week to take on No. 1 Texas. Last year, the Gators upset the Longhorns, and you can bet that Sarkisian’s team will be ready for the game.
