Jon Sumrall gives injury update on multiple key players following Week 4 win over Ole Miss

Jon Sumrall is off and running in his 1st season as Florida head coach, capped by Saturday afternoon’s 52-28 beatdown of previously 4th-ranked Ole Miss at The Swamp.
His Gators are 4-0 and 2-0 in the SEC, they surged way up to No. 8 in Sunday’s new AP Poll, and everything seems to be going perfectly as UF heads to Columbia in Week 5 to face No. 25 Mizzou.
But everything isn’t so perfect for Florida going into the road matchup that will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC. There are injuries to 3 key weapons that Sumrall is dealing with in the aftermath of Week 4.
After Saturday’s victory, during his session with reporters, Sumrall shed more light on the status going forward for wide receivers Bailey Stockton, Vernell Brown III and Eric Singleton Jr.
He started with Stockton.
“So, injury-wise, Bailey, on the shot, on the targeting call, he took a pretty significant shot to his back. Doesn’t look like anything that should keep him out long-term. He came back in and obviously had the punt return,” Jon Sumrall said. “But he just wasn’t quite himself, and so didn’t play a whole lot there in the second half.”
What about Brown?
“And then VBIII, a little knee tweak, nothing substantial, nothing’s torn, but just wasn’t quite confident in cutting it loose there are he tweaked it there late in the second quarter,” Sumrall said. “Feel pretty good about him being available, but it’s too early to know moving forward.”
Finally, Sumrall touched on Singleton, who’s been slowed by injury all season so far but actually had his first catch of the season for 38 yards on Saturday.
“And then, obviously, Singleton, being a true game-time decision, had a huge impact in the game,” Sumrall said. “The one late, they probably thought we were gonna run a post, because we had run that a couple times with him and then he hit the out route, the corner route there, to make the big catch.
“I’m really proud of him because he really didn’t practice a lot this week. His work was more about just trying to see, can he run full speed and, maybe, could he cut a little bit? So, he’s a tough dude, and a guy I’m really proud of.”
The status of all 3 wide receivers will be among the things to watch this week in the leadup to Florida’s trip to Mizzou.
