Jon Sumrall doesn’t want to put a ceiling on what Florida can accomplish in 2026, but he is setting very clear expectations.

Sumrall spoke about what he wants to see from his team this fall during a recent interview with Action Sports Jax.

“I’ve got an expectation to win every game we play. That’s my expectation … if anybody tells me ‘hey, bowl-eligible.’ I’m like, ‘yeah, we better be.’ Or I’ll be on top of the stadium getting ready to do something stupid. To me, you have to have urgency every day. And as soon as you put a ceiling or a cap on what you can do, and start to think with limits in mind, you’re automatically handicapping yourself.

“Our expectation is for our guys to expect to win every freaking time we take the field.”

Sumrall does have a strong track record of winning games. He’s 43-12 across 4 seasons as a head coach at Troy and Tulane. His teams have won at least 9 games in every season of his head coaching career.

However, Sumrall is taking over a Florida program that has missed bowl eligibility in 2 of the past 3 years and hasn’t won 10+ games in a single campaign since 2019.

Florida will open the 2026 season against FAU on Sept. 5.
