Jordan Matthews, Tennessee commitment from Baton Rouge, compares Tiger Stadium to Neyland Stadium

The Tennessee Volunteers got a massive commitment from Jordan Matthews today, a 4-star cornerback from Baton Rouge, Louisiana (Woodlawn).

Not only is Matthews a talented player — he’s ranked as the 15th best corner in his class, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite — but head coach Josh Heupel and staff snagged Matthews right out of LSU’s backyard. It’s even more impressive when you consider the fact that not only did the top corner have an offer from the Tigers, but his dad played for LSU.

With that in mind, this was straight-up highway robbery for the Vols, but it seems like LSU didn’t even have a chance. Not only were the Tigers not in Matthews’ final three (Tennessee beat out Texas and Michigan) but Tiger Stadium apparently had no chance compared to Rocky Top in the 4-star’s mind.

“Man, Rocky Top. Who doesn’t want to play at Rocky Top?” Matthews said in an interview with Orange and White Nation. “My dad played for LSU and everything. Tiger Stadium, yeah it’s cool, but Rocky Top…I just feel like it’s a different environment. I feel like I can play in that environment, and guard there, and make plays for a long time coming.”

It sure sounds like Neyland Stadium helped the Vols pull in this big win on the recruiting trail.
