When it comes to the NFL Draft, each year’s cycle is dominated by who the top quarterbacks coming out of college are, and which one stands out from the pack as the cream of the crop.
This year’s group of gunslingers features several talented arms who all have an opportunity to become the first signal caller to hear their name called by commissioner Roger Goodell next spring, but there is little consensus on who that guy will end up being.
For SEC Network analyst and former Vanderbilt quarterback Jordan Rogers, the top guy on this list in his eyes is none other than Alabama star Ty Simpson, who ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. currently has ranked as the third-best QB prospect on his 2026 big board.
“It’s Ty Simpson,” Rogers said on ESPN’s Get Up on Wednesday morning. “I think since Week 1, that loss against Florida State, he has been lights out — 14 touchdowns, just 1 interception. But it’s the type of throws that he’s making. I don’t think anybody in college football anticipates as well as he does and layers the football. … Also, (an) incredible amount of athleticism that I don’t think he gets enough credit for to extend plays on the outside. I think he’s playing at such a high level right now.”
There’s no denying that Simpson has been playing as well as anybody across college football over the past several weeks, and the results are there to prove it, along with the numbers each week.
The Tide have had 3 first-round draft picks at quarterback since the 2020 NFL Draft. If Simpson can continue to play at the elite level he has been since that Week 1 blunder against Florida State, then there is no reason why he can’t become the next come April.
