Jordan Rodgers criticizes Sam Leavitt for playing ‘backyard football’

The LSU Tigers did not have the best offensive showing against the Ole Miss Rebels in Week 3. Quarterback Sam Leavitt tallied just 158 pass yards in LSU’s loss to Ole Miss, and according to ESPN’s Jordan Rodgers, could be in danger of losing his starting job.
During Wednesday’s episode of Get Up, Rodgers expressed worry about Leavitt’s QB1 status. He believes the Arizona State transfer is going off-script too much, and that he’ll be benched if he doesn’t rectify the issue.
“This offense is predicated on the quick passing game. And without that, you can see it falls apart,” Rodgers said. “They might be a seven or eight-win football team if Sam Leavitt continues to… play backyard football. That’s not what they need… he’s on a short leash now… it might not be him long-term if he can’t fix this part of his game.”
Kiffin has intriguing backup options behind Leavitt. The bigger name option is Husan Longstreet, a former 5-star prospect who began his career at USC in 2025. The real QB2, though, is redshirt sophomore Landen Clark. The Elon transfer earned CAA Co-Offensive Rookie of the Year honors last season after throwing for 2,321 yards and 18 touchdowns for the Phoenix.
LSU (2-1, 0-1 SEC) welcomes the Texas A&M Aggies to Baton Rouge for a game of massive importance on Saturday night (7:30 p.m. E.T., ABC).
