Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel met with reporters on Saturday after the Vols’ narrow road win over Arkansas.

The biggest topic of discussion in Knoxville continues to be Tennessee’s quarterback room. The Vols turned to George MacIntyre midway through last week’s game against Auburn and he made his first start of the season Saturday vs. the Razorbacks.

According to Heupel, MacIntyre’s start came as Faizon Brandon was unable to practice for much of the week due to a lingering injury. Brandon was available in case of “emergency,” Heupel said.

Heupel’s comments indicate Tennessee’s quarterback situation may not be settled. If Brandon is healthier next week, it’s possible the Vols will go back to the true freshman in Week 7.

However, MacIntrye played relatively well on Saturday against the Hogs. He threw for 247 yards on 29 attempts while also tossing 1 touchdown pass and 2 interceptions. Brandon has not thrown for 200+ yards against an FBS opponent in any game so far this season.

Tennessee is now 5-1 on the year and will face Alabama in Knoxville next weekend.
