Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteers were in a dogfight early in Week 6, but were able to come back and secure a 24-17 win over Arkansas. George MacIntyre threw for 247 yards in the start, including 1 touchdown to help Tennessee improve to 5-1 on the season.

MacIntyre got the start over true freshman QB Brandon Faizon, who has been dealing with injuries according to Heupel. With a huge game looming against Alabama in Week 7, Heupel declined to say who would be getting the start against the Crimson Tide.

Brandon became the first true freshman to start at Tennessee since 2004, and he had done a very good job during non-conference play. However, in SEC play, he hasn’t been as effective and was sacked 10 times during the loss to Texas. His struggles continues early against Auburn, leading to Heupel turning to MacIntyre. The redshirt freshman was able to lead Tennessee to a close win, 24-14.

The fact that Heupel didn’t announce his starter isn’t a surprise at all. He is going to keep this decision to his vest, and make Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide have to prepare for all options.

Kickoff between Tennessee and Alabama is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET and the game will be on ABC.
