Josh Heupel speaks about Hendon Hooker’s future, JaVonta Payton’s availability this week

Hendon Hooker has exceeded expectations so far as the Tennessee quarterback, and it begs the question about his future with the Vols or beyond.
Coach Josh Heupel was asked about conversations he’s had with Heupel at his Monday press conference, and roster management decisions between recruiting and the transfer portal in December.
“They’ll happen as we finish the season,” Heupel said. “I think it’s important to finish the season the right way and the kid makes an educated decision. We want our guys to have an opportunity at the next level, you want them to have a full career. You want them to make the right decision at the right time for them. So you get feedback from different people and present the information and help them make an educated decision.”
Heupel was also asked about JaVonta Payton’s availability this week after he left Saturday’s game with a shoulder injury.
“We’ll see how the week unfolds,” he said.
