South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers hasn’t stopped drawing national attention, and college football analyst Josh Pate is bullish on the sophomore quarterback’s potential for the upcoming season.
Pate said on ESPN’s ‘Get Up’ on Thursday that he believes Sellers is the best quarterback in the country entering the 2025 season.
“I think America has seen bits and pieces of him. South Carolina fans are drunk on him as they should be,” Pate said. “There were times where he showed ‘game takeover’ potential last year. His OC is Mike Shula. They’ve really focused on pocket awareness, passing the ball better.
“The word out of camp is their wide receiver room looks underrated.”
Sellers is on multiple award watch lists heading into 2025 under center for the Gamecocks. He threw for 2,534 yards and 18 touchdowns, while rushing for an additional 674 yards and 7 scores last season.
Pate also pointed to Sellers’ supporting cast, led by junior wideout Nyck Harbor.
South Carolina faces one of the nation’s toughest schedules in 2025, opening against Virginia Tech in Atlanta on Aug. 31 before kicking off their SEC slate against Vanderbilt on Sept. 13.
For the moment, Sellers carries a ton of preseason hype. It’ll be interesting to see if it all translates to bigger success for the Gamecocks.
