Josh Pate and college football fans across the country are gearing up for a huge clash in the SEC between No. 8 Alabama and No. 14 Mizzou. The Crimson Tide have won 4 in a row since the season-opening loss to Florida State, while Missouri is undefeated at 5-0.
The Crimson Tide have won back-to-back SEC games against ranked teams Georgia and Vanderbilt, with the win against the Bulldogs being in Athens. While that was looked at as a huge road win in a tough atmosphere, prominent college football analyst Josh Pate believes Missouri is a tougher matchup than Georgia was for Alabama.
“If you’re just watching the tape, the fears that you normally have about Georgia, you actually should have about Missouri,” Pate said on The Next Round. “You would think to yourself a couple of weeks ago, you’re going into Athens and it’s going to be a hostile crowd. Really, what you normally fear about Georgia is their ability to get after you defensively. The difference is they (Missouri) got better players up front than Georgia does. They are more able to pressure the quarterback than Georgia was.”
This is a huge game for the Tigers, as they haven’t had the opportunity to really test themselves against the best teams in the country. Their best wins entering the game on Saturday are against Kansas and South Carolina.
To Pate’s point, Missouri has 12 sacks in 5 games, and it really gotta after the Gamecocks on Sept. 20. In the 29-20 win to open SEC play, Mizzou sacked South Carolina 5 times.
Georgia ranks 118th nationally with only 7 sacks in 5 games.
If the Tigers are able to control the line of scrimmage, they stand a chance to win the game.
Kickoff is set for noon ET on ABC. Alabama is a 3-point favorite, per BetMGM.
