Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide were picked to finish 6th in the SEC Media Days poll from a few weeks ago. And on Tuesday, the Crimson Tide came in at No. 11 in the Coaches Preseason poll.

Neither of those rankings are necessarily bad, but they’re definitely low by Alabama football standards. As Alabama wrapped up its first fall camp practice of the preseason on Wednesday, DeBoer was asked to comment on these lower preseason rankings. He didn’t have much to say, but the way he said it conveyed a stark message:

“We’re definitely aware.” DeBoer said bluntly.

DeBoer and the Crimson Tide definitely have something to prove this year. Alabama lost 4 games last season and didn’t look like it belonged on the same field as the national champion Indiana Hoosiers, who knocked them out of the second round of the College Football Playoff.

The Tide lost a lot from that team, including quarterback Ty Simpson and starting OLs Kadyn Proctor and Parker Brailsford, not to mention a few impact defensive linemen. There’s still plenty of talent everywhere you look, but this is a year of unknowns for the Crimson Tide as a whole.

Alabama’s season is set to kick off on September 5 against East Carolina.
