Kalen DeBoer comments on controversial non-DPI call, Dijon Lee penalty vs. Georgia
Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer met with reporters following the Tide’s 20-17 loss to Georgia on Saturday night.
Alabama had an opportunity to tie the game or even take the lead late, but squandered opportunities on both sides of the ball.
After reaching field goal range, Keelon Russell took a deep shot down the right side line that fell incomplete. Alabama coaches and fans pleaded for a defensive pass interference call, but the officials didn’t throw the flag.
After the game, DeBoer took accountability, saying Alabama shouldn’t have put itself in a position to rely on the officials:
Russell was sacked for a big loss on 3rd down, forcing Alabama to punt the ball away on 4th and 19.
There was still enough time for Alabama to potentially get the ball back for one final drive until cornerback Dijon Lee committed a personal foul penalty to give the Bulldogs an automatic first down.
In his postgame press conference, DeBoer said Alabama lacked “emotional maturity” in the closing minutes against Georgia.
Alabama will now face an uphill battle to get back to the SEC Championship Game, but is likely to be favored in the remainder of its regular season contests.
