With the signing of 3-star prospect Tayden Kaawa on the first day of the Early Signing Period, Alabama has added 2 intriguing high school quarterbacks from the Class of 2026.

The 6-foot-5, 235-pound Kaawa is regarded by the 247Sports Composite as the nation’s No. 31 quarterback. Meanwhile, 4-star signee Jett Thomalla is the No. 1 prospect from Nebraska and the nation’s No. 7 quarterback.

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer explained the strategy behind signing this pair of quarterbacks. It’s more about quality than the quantity, as DeBoer describes it.

“You just don’t know what the future is. You always want to have five. … And we found the right guys,” DeBoer told reporters on Wednesday. “Between Jett and Tayden, I just love what they bring from an arm talent, winning mentality. Just go-getters.”

The signing of Kaawa was Alabama’s 14th of this class, which is currently ranked as the best in the SEC according to 247Sports.

Alabama’s current quarterback, Ty Simpson, has passed for 3,056 yards, with 25 touchdowns and 4 interceptions along with a 151.0 passer rating. Simpson has 1 year of eligibility remaining and he’s also projected as a potential draft pick.

Alabama will face Georgia on Saturday in the SEC Championship Game from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
