Kalen DeBoer and Alabama are in Columbia in Week 8 to face South Carolina. The Crimson Tide will hope to have Geno VanDeMark back in the lineup as the veteran offensive lineman has suffered an undisclosed injury.

VanDeMark’s status was initially up in the air as he was listed as “questionable” before the SEC availability report showed him as “probable” on Friday. On Saturday, though, he was upgraded further to a game-time decision.

DeBoer gave a final update on the health of the redshirt senior to the Crimson Tide Sports Network, saying “we’ll see” while noting that VanDeMark had been limited in practice leading up to Saturday’s game against the Gamecocks. That’s according to AL.com’s Mike Rodak.

VanDeMark is in his second season with the Crimson Tide. In 2024, he played in every game for Alabama, seeing time at both left and right guard. He has emerged as a starter up front in 2025 as he’s been given the nod every game so far, with six of those seven starts coming at RG and the other at LG.

Before coming to Alabama, VanDeMark was at Michigan State, signing with the Spartans out of the 2021 recruiting class. The New Jersey native saw time in 18 games, including eight starts.
