The Alabama Crimson Tide picked up a massive conference road win in Week 5 against the Georgia Bulldogs, but that doesn’t mean the Tide escaped Athens unscathed.

Alabama lost veteran linebacker Qua Russaw in the second half against the Dawgs with an apparent foot injury and was forced to miss the rest of the game after coming to the sidelines for evaluation.

This came after the team lost another seasoned linebacker in Jah-Marien Latham earlier in the week during practice, during a scary incident that ended up with Latham needing to be transported to a local hospital with what was described as a serious neck injury.

Second-year Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer spoke with the media on Monday afternoon following practice and gave updates on the status of both upperclassmen.

DeBoer confirmed that Russaw suffered a broken foot against the Dawgs and underwent surgery to repair the damage. Alabama is hopeful he will be back before the end of the season.

Latham, on the other hand, will unfortunately miss the rest of the year, DeBoer said.

Losing 2 of their veteran leaders on defense will certainly sting a bit for the Tide, but it’s always next man up in the SEC for teams that are looking to contend for a National Title.

As such, DeBoer will have to find younger guys who are up to the task of filling Russaw and Latham’s shoes moving forward to keep the ball rolling on their season.
