The college football recruiting landscape is currently at a crossroads for the 2022 recruiting class after the news that former NFL tight end Daeโ€™Quan Wright is being pursued by LSU.

During his Monday press conference, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer weighed in on the hot-button topic. Keep in mind, the entire Class of 2022 was ruled eligible by a Colorado district judge — though the NCAA was recently granted a stay in combating that ruling.

“Overall, as a general how that works, Greg Byrneโ€™s communicating with me and us about just what we can and canโ€™t do.ย There is a possibility out there with someone who was on our roster in the past,” DeBoer said. “But right now, he wouldnโ€™t be able to come in and play. So I canโ€™t control that. I canโ€™t worry about that.”

It would certainly be intriguing to find out which former Class of 2022 Crimson Tide player that DeBoer is referencing.

DeBoer added that this is a widespread discussion being had with programs across the country and he’s placing his trust in AD Greg Byrne to navigate Alabama through the situation.

“Weโ€™ve just got to see how things move forward and progress. You just never know in the world weโ€™re in right now what tomorrow might look like. Weโ€™ll see as we go,” DeBoer said. “I know thereโ€™s a lot of conference and national [people] figuring this thing out. Greg Byrne continues to update with it.”

Alabama begins the 2026 season with a home matchup vs. East Carolina on Sept. 5 (12 p.m. ET/ABC).
