Kamario Taylor offers current mindset, insight surrounding future at Mississippi State

Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor has been one of the best stories of the 2026 college football season. The sophomore signal-caller is tied for the FBS lead in touchdown passes (14) and has his Bulldogs at 4-0 ahead of a clash with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Despite this, there’s immense focus on him potentially leaving Starkville.
During College GameDay in Week 4, Nick Saban said he’d be “trying to get” Taylor to enter the transfer portal if he were still coaching. Social media can’t put Taylor in the portal fast enough. Taylor, though, is insistent that he’s right where he wants to be.
“They don’t know the type of person I am,” Taylor told ESPN’s Alex Scarborough. “My mom always told me that once you start something, you have to finish it.”
Taylor has reiterated his desire to stay with Mississippi State numerous times while speaking with Scarborough, including after his Bulldogs’ victory over the Missouri Tigers last weekend. He told Scarborough he just brushes off what people say about him transferring.
“I just try to live in the moment. This morning, I said a prayer. I was like, ‘God, allow me to be where my feet are.’ That’s all,” Taylor said. “That’s what I’m going to continue to do. Be where I am day in, day out. Just come in with the right mindset. Come in with the mindset to approach this thing the right way and go take advantage of every opportunity that presents itself to us.”
The opportunity on the horizon for Taylor and Mississippi State is to establish the Bulldogs as not just a potential College Football Playoff participant, but a national championship contender. Mississippi State hosts Alabama on Saturday afternoon (12:00 p.m. E.T., ABC).
