Nick Saban says he’d be trying to get Kamario Taylor in the portal if he were coaching

One of the newest stars to emerge in the first few weeks of the 2026 college football season has been electric Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor.
The true sophomore has wowed fans and commentators with a special blend of size, athleticism, and arm talent that has drawn early comparisons to former Auburn superstar Cam Newton.
Nick Saban knows what a star quarterback looks like, and he’s been extremely impressed with what he’s seen from Taylor so far, telling his College GameDay co-hosts that if he were still coaching, he’d be doing everything he could to get Taylor into the transfer portal.
A Mississippi native, Taylor was one of the most highly sought-after recruits in the 2025 cycle and committed to Jeff Lebby and the Bulldogs over several other big-time SEC programs.
He saw limited action as a true freshman, but ran away with the starting job in camp leading up to the season, and has quickly proven to be one of the best signal callers in the entire country.
Saban may not be coaching any longer, but Taylor is still likely to get calls from several other top coaches next offseason trying to lure him into the portal to play for their squad in 2027.
